I'm glad my article from over the weekend resonated with people. If you haven't seen it, check it out:
The Ugly Truth About Product Launches
I was a little worried with all the hubub over the huge launch of Product Launch Formula with all the affiliate commissions and promotions that people would get the wrong idea.
Don't get me wrong, PLF and Jeff Walker are both well worth checking out, and lots of people swear by them.
My issue is not with the products or with Jeff, but with the people who say "Build it and they will promote".Creating a product as a complete unknown and getting affiliates to promote is the exception rather than the rule. For each rare person who has been able to convince a stranger to promote there are thousands who end up in trash and spam folders.
Ask anyone with a decent sized audience and they will tell you they ignore, delete or mark as spam waaay more affiliate requests and JV invites than they even open, let alone take up. There are just too many to take notice of them all, and too much risk.
We like to deal with people we know and like. You know this to be true, why should the people you want to promote for you be any different? :)This is why you need to take some steps first.
Establish your own audience, get known, do some networking and create connections. It's not difficult or hard, but takes some care and the correct approach. Most people are not willing and try to find short cuts, which are both ineffective and often expensive!
You might want to check out these other posts from last week:
Have you implemented the ARC System in your online activities?
What is your website's clear purpose?I also posted today "Why you owe it to the world to be your true awesome self", which is a jokey title intended to answer the people who tell me "I would love to be an authority, I would love to offer products, I just daren't!" and show that it is OK to put yourself out there :)
Bottom line is by helping other people you are doing a good thing, so don't hide what you have to offer from the world! :)
Cheers
Chris
